Aidan’s Skincare Story
I’ve had problematic skin for most of my adult life — acne in my late teens and early twenties, eczema flare-ups triggered by stress, and a sensitivity to fragrances that ruled out most high-street skincare products. So when I started my pharmacy training, I wasn’t just learning about skin from a textbook. I was living it.
La Roche-Posay came into my life during my pharmacy training, and it quickly became the brand I reached for first — both personally and professionally. The formulations are built around thermal spring water from the town of La Roche-Posay in France, which has naturally high selenium content and a unique calming effect on reactive skin. Every product is developed with dermatologist input and tested specifically on sensitive and problem-prone skin types. That’s not marketing — it’s the reason I trust it.
That trust deepened when I moved into care home pharmacy and wound management. Managing fragile, xerotic skin in elderly patients — where barrier function is compromised and reactions to standard products are common — reinforced exactly why I recommend LRP above other ranges. Cicaplast Baume B5 works in a wound care context for the same reason it works for nappy rash: barrier repair, anti-inflammatory action, and tolerance on the most sensitive skin. The clinical principles are the same. The patient is different.
Adding vaccination provider training to my clinical work means I now cover the full spectrum of preventive and clinical care — from immunising residents in a nursing home, to managing their skin conditions, to advising a patient in their twenties on a skincare routine. That breadth is what I bring to Chemco, and to every product recommendation on this page.
Aidan’s Top 7 La Roche-Posay Picks
Personal recommendations from clinical practice. Black tags indicate products also used in care home settings.
La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5+ 40ml
My most versatile recommendation across all settings. Vitamin B5 and madecassoside repair the skin barrier faster than almost anything I’ve tested. I use this personally after any skin reaction, recommend it to parents for nappy rash, use it in wound care protocols in nursing homes, and advise it post-retinol and post-procedure. If you only buy one La Roche-Posay product, this is it.
La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo+M 40ml
My first recommendation for inflammatory acne or oily, blemish-prone skin. LHA exfoliates inside the pore while niacinamide reduces redness and inflammation — two mechanisms simultaneously. I’ve seen patients clear persistent acne with this when other treatments have failed.
La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVMune 400 SPF50+ Hydrating Cream 50ml
SPF is the most evidence-backed anti-ageing and skin health product available without prescription. UVMune 400 blocks a broader range of UVA than any previous Anthelios formula. I apply it every morning and recommend it to every patient — including elderly care home residents where photoprotection is frequently overlooked.
La Roche-Posay Lipikar Baume AP+M 400ml
My first recommendation for eczema and for dry, fragile skin in elderly patients. The AP+M formula contains shea butter, niacinamide and Aqua Posae Filiformis, which restores the microbiome disrupted in both eczema-prone and xerotic ageing skin. I use this in care home protocols for dry and at-risk residents. The 400ml format is practical for daily body use.
La Roche-Posay Toleriane Rosaliac AR SPF30 Moisturiser 50ml
The only facial SPF I know of specifically formulated for rosacea. It combines sun protection with anti-redness actives — addressing two rosacea essentials in one product. Sun exposure is one of the most common rosacea triggers, so this product deals with the cause and the visible redness simultaneously.
La Roche-Posay Toleriane Dermallergo Night Cream 40ml
When a patient tells me their skin reacts to everything, this is where I start at night. Deliberately minimal ingredients — no fragrance, no alcohol, no unnecessary actives. Neuro-Sensine specifically targets skin hypersensitivity. I recommend it equally for community patients with reactive skin and for fragile skin in elderly care home residents — the overnight application gives skin a full window to repair without daytime triggers.
La Roche-Posay Mela B3 Serum 30ml
Hyperpigmentation is one of the most common concerns I see in patients over 35, and equally prevalent in elderly care home residents where decades of sun exposure accumulate. The Mela B3 combines niacinamide at clinical concentration with tranexamic acid for fading post-inflammatory pigmentation. Pair with Anthelios SPF50 every morning.
